It's settled.  The game of keep-away with Ares is done, though it took her a few days to discern what the liquid was inside the tiny vial.   Lethe water - just a few drops, but more than enough to make her worry.  The vial was less than half full when Ares gave it to her, so what did he do with the rest?

She doesn't want to know, and she honestly doesn't care.  She journeyed down to Tartarus earlier, pouring the few clear drops back into the river from which they came, and (metaphorically) washing her hands of all this nonsense; of Ares, of Hades' children, of the conflict she knows is coming.  Ares had a point when they last saw each other - playing dumb and riding out the impending chaos is the smart move right now, and she's sticking to it.

And yet her curiosity still nags at her as she sits on her throne wrapped in a shawl, alone in the empty room.  She rolls the tiny crystal vial back and forth between her index finger and thumb, inspecting it from different angles and watching how the light plays along the smooth surface.   What was he doing with Lethe water? she wonders, not for the first time.  What does the god of war need to forget?

It shouldn't concern her, not now that she's chosen a plan of action that she intends to stick to, but her curiosity and worry dog her everywhere she goes.  Every time she so much as sets foot in her own room on Olympus she's forced to remember their confrontation - the warning of what was coming - and the banks of the Styx are much the same.

There are so many questions, and she finds herself wishing that she'd kept her head in the sand if only to avoid all this worry.  She's only a small part of all of this, and arguably it isn't (and shouldn't be) her problem, but it weighs on her anyway.

And where the hell is Hades? she thinks, drawing her shawl tighter around her shoulders with a sigh.  How can he just be 'away' when all of this is happening?
